Notice of Vacancy in the office of Wyoming Johnson County Clerk – Elect and Request for Applications

Buffalo, WY – Johnson County Commissioner Chairman Bill Novotny notified Johnson County Republican Party Chairman Robert Garrison that County Clerk Elect Kate Harriet has resigned, creating a vacancy in the office of Johnson County Clerk – Elect. Pursuant to Wyoming Statutes, §22-18-111(a)(ii), the Johnson County Republican Party Central Committee is required to hold a meeting within fifteen (15) days after the written notice is received to select three (3) persons for the appointment selection by the Johnson County Board of Commissioners.

Johnson County Republican Party Chairman Robert Garrison announces that applications are being accepted from candidates to fill this vacancy. Pursuant to Wyoming Statutes §18-3-401, any person “who shall be a resident of the county in which the county clerk serves may apply” and was registered as a Republican on November 16, 2022, may apply for consideration to fill the vacancy.  The general duties of the County Clerk are found in Wyoming Statutes, §18-3-402.

The County Central Committee’s selection meeting will be held Thursday, December 1, 2022, at 5:30 pm at the Bomber Mountain Civic Center, Small Gym at 63 N. Burritt Avenue, Buffalo, Wyoming.  In case of severe weather, the meeting will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, December 3rd at the same location.  The meeting is open to the public.  At that meeting attendees will hear from qualified applicants, and the County Central Committee will select the three (3) persons whose names will be immediately forwarded to the County Commissioners for their consideration.  The candidate appointed by the Commissioners will serve the from the beginning of the term on the first Monday in January 2022 until first Monday in January 2024.  A new clerk will be elected in the 2024 primary/general election cycle.

Application procedure.  Application packages should include a letter of interest, a statement of qualifications, and any other information pertinent to the office. The application package should not exceed five (5) pages.  Applicants should plan to attend the meeting to present themselves and should provide 16 copies of the application package for the Central Committee members. All applications are considered public information.
